My New Publication: How and Where Did Older People Travel Before and After COVID? Insights from Washington, DC’s Smart Card Data

So excited to share my new publication, a collaborative work with Mohsen Alavi, a doctoral student at my faculty, and Dr. Andy Hong, a professor at the University of Utah’s City and Metropolitan Planning.

In this study, we used data from Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Senior SmarTrip card (automatic fare payment) to understand travel behavior of older adults. We found that older adults’ subway ridership in Washington, DC showed a slower pandemic recovery compared to all users and that COVID induced changes in their travel destinations remain present. Read the full article to learn more.
