My New Publication (Co-authored with My Students!): Why Bike Lanes Should Remain on Ontario’s Roads

Very excited to share this article that I co-wrote with my students Steven Lum and Joanna Silva!

In the piece, we outline why bike lanes should remain on Ontario roads. Bike lanes 1. reduce injuries; 2. create more inclusive roads (women, older adults, children, people with disabilities, and those with limited transportation options); 3. increase consumer spending for local businesses; 4. cause insignificant impact on travel time for motorists, including EMS.

We also discuss a precedent where bike lanes were removed in London, England following residents’ complaints that they caused traffic. The removal led to longer travel time on the street compounded by cars illegally parking in the space previously reserved for the bike lane.
