My New Publication: Why app-hailed transportation remains inadequately accessible to wheelchair users

Soo excited to share my other new publication – 2nd in a week! When it rains, it surely does pour. In the peer-review process, I think two is a downpour.   

 

In this thought piece, I highlight three reasons why app-hailed travel remains inadequately accessible to wheelchair users: the app-business model, lack of regulations, and precarity of platform work. It is important to note that the challenges that wheelchair users experience in app-hailed travel are old; it is simply the transportation-service model that is different. Essentially, new travel options, old discriminatory practices. In this piece, I also outline policy implications and considerations. 1. Regulations that take into consideration the 21st tripartite relationships among users, platforms, and providers, 2. Tech workplace policy that is inclusive of disabled workforce to inform tech design through lived experience 3. Business policy that does not exclude some groups by default. Find the article here.
