I love my job and am happy about the fact that this is my job. I have loved it every single day since I began my appointment a year and half ago, and it brings me joy everyday. This does not mean there are not days where I also feel frustrated, bored, exhausted, anxious, disappointed, unhappy, and other negative emotions. But even on such days, I would not trade my job for anything else and none of these feelings take away from the predominant feeling about my job: happiness. It also does not mean there are not aspects of my job that I am not very excited about. For instance, grading student work. Even when I can’t wait to be done with grading, I love my job and am happy about it.
Being a professor is the best job. Because my job is about creating, developing, and sharing knowledge. I research, write, and teach. I love all of them in equal measure. I can’t get over the fact that I get paid to research, write and teach!
This post is simply an expression of my appreciation of that fact.
